Refrigerator Locks: A recent survey of Stoughton High School Students showed that 50.2% of Stoughton youth have tried alcohol before the age of 18, and at least 25% are drinking alcohol on a regular basis. Current research indicates that youth under the age of 15 years who begin using alcohol or drugs are up to six times more likely to have future addiction issues, compared to those who don't. This is due to impact that these foreign substances have on the developing adolescent brain chemistry. Focus groups with 9th through 12th graders showed that the most common place for youth to get alcohol is from their own, or the homes of friends. In addition, a recent survey of adults in Stoughton showed that over 73.% believe that youth sneak alcohol from homes. In an effort to prevent underage drinking, the Stoughton Wellness Coalition is giving away refrigerator locks to anyone in the community who would like one. If you or someone you know has a beer or wine fridge, especially if it's in the garage or basement, contact us to get your free lock, and help to keep all our kids safe.
Tamper Tape: Tamper resistant tape can be used to seal bottles of alcohol or other items to prevent access in your home. Families may use tamper tape when they are going out of town or when they are hosting a sleepover or teen gathering. Stoughton Wellness will provide you with 4 strips of tamper tape upon request. Email us at info@stoughtonwellness.org and we’ll arrange a pick-up location and time.
